One of the Twelve, the man called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you prepared to give me if I hand him over to you?’ They paid him thirty silver pieces, and from that moment Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus. Jesus was still speaking when Judas appeared, and with him a number of men armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and elders of the people. Now the traitor had arranged a sign with them. ‘The one I kiss,’ he had said, ‘he is the man. Take him in charge’. So Judas went straight up to Jesus and said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi’, and kissed him. Jesus said to him, ‘My friend, do what you are here for’. Then they came forward, seized Jesus and took him in charge. At that, one of the followers of Jesus grasped his sword and drew it; he struck out at the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear. Jesus then said, ‘Put your sword back, for all who draw the sword will die by the sdrew it; he struck out&nsp; at the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear. Jesus then said, ‘Put your sword back, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword, "

It sounds rather like those antique TV programmes where celebrities travel around antique shops looking for a bargain. How much will you let me have this vase for? But this bargaining was for the life of Jesus, and the chief priests listened to what he had to say. They settled on 30 silver pieces.
Judas had their attention again when they came to Jesus. He had no qualms about sending Jesus to his death, even when Jesus said 'My friend, do what you are here for'. When Judas heard these words, he might have had second thoughts but, no, he was resolute and betrayed his Lor
